Competition Terms & Conditions

The terms for the Wool4School Competition (United Kingdom) (‘Competition’) include the Student Competition Summary, the Teacher Competition Summary and the Terms and Conditions each of which is set out in this document (‘Terms’).


STUDENT COMPETITION SUMMARY

1)

Key Dates
You must register and submit your Entry by the below dates:

2)

Eligibility
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible to participate:

a)

Entrants must be aged between 14 – 19 and studying either:
England:
  • Junior entrant - Level 2 qualification in a GCSE or equivalent (14 – 16 years); and
  • Senior entrant - Level 3 qualification in a school sixth form or College of Further Education (16 – 19 years).
Scotland:
  • Junior entrant – CFE at levels 3 or 4 (14 – 16 years); and
  • Senior entrant – SQA National 4, National 5 or higher (16 – 19 years).
Wales:
  • Junior entrant - Level 2 qualification in a GCSE or equivalent (14 – 16 years); and
  • Senior entrant - Level 3 qualification in a school sixth form or College of Further Education (16 – 19 years).
Northern Ireland:
  • Junior entrant – Years 11 and 12 (14-16 years); and
  • Senior entrant – Years 13 and 14 (16-19 years).

b)

You must be a UK citizen or holder of Indefinite Leave to Remain.

3)

Submission requirements
Your Entry must include all the below requirements and be submitted via the wool4school.com/gb website. Anything in addition to the required materials will not be considered. Each deliverable must be submitted and uploaded as a separate file.
 
We recommend a maximum of three files per student, however, more are permitted up to a limit of 10MB each (only .pdf, .jpg, .png, .doc or .docx format). Note: in your Entry please do not include any personal information about persons other than yourself or your parent/guardian.

a)

Board 1 – Inspiration and Research:
  • Suggested limit, 500 words.
  • Demonstrate inspiration from your chosen element (Earth, Air, Fire, Water). This could be a combination of written description and imagery.
  • Showcase the results of your research and how Merino wool’s unique properties and benefits relate to your chosen element.
  • Evidence an understanding of the meaning of the woolmark logo.

b)

Board 2 – Development of Design Idea:
  • Suggested limit, 500 words.
  • Demonstrate how the inspiration from your chosen element will translate to your design. This could be a combination of written description and imagery.
  • Explore colour, texture, and decorative techniques in relation to your chosen element, and investigate and develop how these could translate into your design idea.
  • Identify the Merino wool fabrics and wool innovations that you will use in your design. Explain why the properties and characteristics of these are important in your design, what benefits do they provide?

c)

Board 3 – Final Design:
  • Present your own original fashion design.
  • Your fashion illustration can be hand drawn, CAD drawings or a combination of both.
  • Include brief annotations to identify features of the design concept and the materials used, linking back to the brief.

Judging Criteria
Your Entry will be judged by a panel of four judges, according to the following criteria:

 

Board 1 – Inspiration and Research:

a)

Clear inspiration from the brief.

b)

Evidence of research into wool in relation to the brief

 

Board 2 – Development of Design Idea:

a)

Development of inspiration into identified design features.

b)

Evidence of research into properties and characteristics of wool relevant to the design

 

Board 3 – Final Design:

a)

Innovative and creative design inspired by the brief.

b)

Clear annotations to highlight relevant design features and materials used.

Student – Prize Draw (1 winner chosen at random)

TEACHER COMPETITION SUMMARY

1)

Key Dates
Students must nominate their Teacher and submit their design Entry within the dates below:
a) Competition opens:

5 July 2024

2)

Eligibility
The nominated Teacher must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

a)

Eligible Teacher must teach a;

  •  Level 2 qualification in a GCSE or equivalent; or
  • Level 3 qualification in a school sixth form or College of Further Education

b)

Eligible Teacher must be a UK citizen or holder of Indefinite Leave of Remain (ILR).

3)

Prizes (winners chosen at random)

a)

Junior OR Senior teacher (1 winner chosen at random): 

  • Wool materials for the classroom.


WOOL4SCHOOL COMPETITION (United Kingdom) TERMS AND CONDITIONS

OVERVIEW

1. The Wool4School Student Design Competition for the year set out in the Key Dates section of the Student Competition Summary (‘Student Competition’) and the Wool4School Teacher Design Competition set out in the Key Dates section of the Teacher Competition Summary (‘Teacher Competition’) together form the Competition.

2. The Competition is conducted by Woolmark International Pty Limited (Company no. 6378199) (‘Promoter’), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian Wool Innovation Limited (‘AWI’) (ABN 12 095 165 558). The Promoter’s registered office is New Wing, Somerset House, The Strand, London WC2R 1LA, United Kingdom. Any rights of the Promoter are extended to its affiliates.

3. Your entry to the Competition (Entry) is free of charge and must be in accordance with the Terms, including the ‘Entry requirements’ listed in the Student Competition Summary and the Teacher Competition Summary (as applicable). By entering you agree to be bound by the Terms.

4. The Promoter may at their discretion refuse you entry to the Competition or to award you any prize if you fail to comply with these Terms, the law, or if your involvement with the Competition may cause adverse publicity to the Promoter or the Australian Wool Industry.

5. All Entries must be received by the Promoter by no later than the time stated in the Student Competition Summary and the Teacher Competition Summary, as applicable. All competition entries received after the times there stated are automatically disqualified.

 

YOUR OBLIGATIONS

6. If you are under the age of 18 and selected as a finalist, your parent or guardian is required to complete a ‘Permission to Publish Form’, and a ‘Parental Consent Form’ in order for you to progress further in the competition.

7. Your Entry must not include inappropriate language, gratuitous violence, sexual references or statements that, in the Promoter’s opinion, promote hatred towards an individual, race, or community.

8. You promise and warrant that:

a. all details provided with your Entry are true and accurate;

b. your Entry is wholly comprised of original work, created and owned by you, not previously communicated to the public;

c. your Entry does not contain commercial words, art, photographs or images;

d. your Entry does not contain any identifiable product or product logo other than your school’s crest;

e. you have all necessary rights and licenses to grant the rights set out in these Terms and will produce evidence of any such rights or licenses at the Promoter's request;

f. the exercise of the rights granted to the Promoter in these Terms will not infringe the rights of any third parties; and

g. you will indemnify the Promoter against any loss or damage resulting from any breach of these warranties.

 

COMPETITION WINNERS AND PRIZE(S)

9. The following clauses 10 to 15 (inclusive) apply only if you are chosen by the Competition judging panel as a winner (each a ‘Winner’). The decision of the judging panel (acting reasonably) will be final.

10. During judging:

1. chance plays no part in determining the Winners; and

2. the judging panel may choose more than one Winner/runner up at their sole discretion.

11. For Senior & Junior winners: You will be awarded the entitlement to select a UAL Short Course to undertake from the category of Fashion & Textiles (Fashion Business, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Fashion Making & Pattern Cutting or Textiles and Materials). You can choose for the Course to be delivered either in person or remotely (online). You must agree to participating in a short interview with the UAL Short Course team during their summer course for promotional purposes. Participation may include all forms of media i.e., photographs, video, recording etc.

12. You will receive the relevant prize set out in the Student Competition Summary or Teacher Competition Summary (as applicable) (each a ‘Prize’). You must choose to commence the awarded course set out above by no later than 30 June 2025, otherwise the entitlement will be lost.

13. The Prize values are correct at time of printing but no responsibility is accepted for any variation in the value of any Prize. Prizes supplied by a third party are subject to availability. In the event that any prize is unavailable for whatever reason, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute any prize for a prize of equal or greater value.

14. If you have not been in contact with the Promotor to claim your Prize within 5 days of a notification via telephone call or email, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the Prize to the next eligible entrant. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able (or otherwise fail) to take up the Prize. In that event, the new Winner will be selected in accordance with the Student Competition or Teacher Competition Summary.

15. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable, and non-monetary components cannot be taken as a monetary payment.

16. Any transport awarded shall be economy class and does not include travel insurance, the cost of transfers to and from stations, food and drink, spending money, tax or personal expenses. Any other costs incurred that are incidental to the fulfilment of the Prize are your sole responsibility.

17. All Students who have completed submission to participate and compete in their relevant Category are eligible to be selected in the Draw to win one (1) 1-year subscription to Vogue magazine.

18. All Teachers nominated by their Students are eligible to be selected in the Draw to win wool materials for their classroom. 19. Selection of winners for the Draw will take place on 8th June 2024 (Prize Draw Date) at New Wing, Somerset House. The Strand, London, WC2R 1LA, and the first one (1) valid draw will be the winner of their respective Draw category. 20. The Promoter will contact the winners to collect or receive delivery of the Prize within 14 days after 5th July 2024 (Announcement Date).

21. The Promoter will publish the names of Prize Bundle winners on the Promoter's website on within 14 days after July 5th 2024 (Announcement Date). 22. If any Prizes remain unclaimed within three months after the Prize Draw Date, an unclaimed Prize draw will be held at New Wing, Somerset House. The Strand, London, WC2R 1LA on 8 September 2024 (Unclaimed Prize Draw).

23.The Promoter assumes no responsibility for any failure to receive an entry or for inaccurate information or for any loss, damage or injury as a result of technical or telecommunications problems.

 

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

24. To the full extent permitted by law (which does not affect your statutory rights), the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate you or accept any liability for:

a. any incorrect or inaccurate information;

b. any technical error that may occur in the course of the administration of this Competition;

c. any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, loss or delay of any Entry or otherwise in operation or transmission, communications line failure, technical malfunction, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of your Entry or the running of the Competition; or

d. any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or consequential) to you or your property as a result of any person entering into the Competition or accepting or using any Prize, including without limitation non-receipt or damage to any Prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees.

 

DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY

25.The Promoter collects and holds personal information about you (as an Entrant in the Competition) to include you in the Competition, administer the Competition and, where appropriate, award prizes. If the personal information requested is not provided, you will not be eligible to participate.

26. You agree that the Promoter may, in the event you become a Finalist or Winner, publish or cause to be published your name, photograph or likeness and locality in any media globally, without compensation.

27. The Promoter will comply with all applicable Privacy Laws in the collection, protection, use, maintenance, handling and disclosure of personal information regarding this Competition.

28. You accept that the personal information you provide to the Promoter in accordance with these Terms will be held and used according to the Promoter’s Privacy Policy (https://www.wool4school.com/gb/legal/privacy) and may be transferred to the Promoter's computer systems in Australia for storage purposes in manners compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.

29. Please note that if you are under 16 years of age you will need your parent or guardian’s authorisation so that your personal information may be gathered by The Promoter.

GENERAL

30. This Competition is run in the United Kingdom only.

31. You may only submit one Entry.

32.The Promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms at its sole discretion.

33.You grant the Promoter and its affiliated companies a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, sub-licensable, royalty free license to use the intellectual property rights in your Entry (and any component of it) for any promotional and marketing purposes without notice and without any fee being paid, including (without limitation) to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, adapt, store, re-format and sub-licence the Entry.

34. You acknowledge the Promoter and its affiliated companies may exercise the global, non-exclusive right to communicate your Entry in whole or in part to the public on any media platform.

35. You acknowledge the Promoter and its affiliated companies may allow users to view, reproduce, download and otherwise deal in the copyright works attached to and embodied in your Entry.

36. Upon entry you waive your Moral Rights (described below) and any other similar rights in the Entry and consent to any act or omission that would otherwise infringe your moral or similar rights. In these Terms, Moral Rights includes:

a. a right of attribution of authorship;

b. a right not to have authorship falsely attributed;

c. a right of integrity of authorship; and

d. any right of a similar nature which is conferred by statute and which exists or comes to exist anywhere in the world.

37. If for any reason the conduct or operation of the Competition is not capable of proceeding as planned, is interfered with, or disrupted in any way, the Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, suspend, modify or recommence the Competition as it sees fit.

38. All decisions made by the Promoter regarding the Competition are final and the Promoter will not enter into any correspondence with you with regard to challenging those decisions.

39. If any provision of these Terms is held to be illegal, invalid, void or otherwise unenforceable, it will be severed from the remaining provisions, which will continue in full force and effect.

40. The Competition is not open to:

a. any employee, officer, servant, agent, supplier or contractor of the Promoter or AWI, or their related bodies corporate or their agencies involved with the Competition; or

b. any natural or adopted child, or sibling of a person referred to in above paragraph 33(a).

41. These Terms shall be governed by the laws of England, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
